John Francis Collins (World War 2)

Overview
John Francis Collins (1922 - 2009) was a World War 2 US Army Air Force pilot who served in the southwest Pacific theater, earning numerous medals and commendations for gallantry and service. His military career extended beyond the war in the National Guard but he also made a career in home building. He eventually retired as a Brigadier General. He married shortly after the war and raised 3 sons.

Narrative
John Collins came to my attention as the result of finding a World War 2 era photographic portrait of him in pilot gear. On the back of the frame was a biography he wrote of himself during what seemed to be the late 1950s or early 60s. Unfortunately, only half of the autobiography survived, a gap which motivated additional research to fill the holes.
